  • Phone paid for by us
  • No charge for our application help

Subject to eligibility, provider approval, coverage, compatible devices and availability. Current plan terms and ongoing requirements apply.

Check the phone rules, not the solar rules.

You do not need an electric utility account or a community-solar subscription.

Standard Lifeline eligibility can be based on household income at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines, or participation in a qualifying program. Each household receives only one Lifeline benefit.

  • SNAP
  • Medicaid
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance
  • Veterans Pension or Survivors Benefit

Tribal-land and survivor pathways have additional official rules. This guide is not a final eligibility decision.

Before application or activation

  1. Confirm eligibility and address coverage.

Use the official Lifeline application route and Assurance Wireless's availability and coverage checks.

  2. Confirm your device and current plan.

Phones must be compatible and unlocked where required. Assurance Wireless offers a compatibility tool; device details belong there, not in our general inquiry.

  3. Complete the provider’s authorized steps.

Any identity or eligibility evidence goes through the provider/verifier. Confirm SIM activation and number-transfer instructions; keep existing service until a transfer is completed.

Need provider support? Assurance Wireless: 1-888-321-5880. Official Lifeline help: 1-800-234-9473.

Does Lifeline itself guarantee a free phone?

No. Lifeline supports eligible service. Community Savings purchases phones for qualifying participants and pays the device expense. The phone contribution is separate from the Lifeline service support. Availability, compatibility and approval still apply.

What is included in the mobile plan?

Assurance Wireless currently publishes a standard $0 Lifeline plan with unlimited talk and text and 10GB of high-speed mobile data. Data access ends after the included allotment. Plans and availability may vary; check the current plan offered for your address before activation. This is mobile service, not a Community Savings home-internet offering.

Could there be other charges?

The supplied phone, Community Savings activation assistance and included qualifying $0 monthly plan have no participant charge. Optional extra data, international services, replacements and other purchases are separate. Provider terms identify possible location-specific taxes or fees; confirm the actual offer and do not accept an add-on you do not want.

What if I already receive Lifeline?

Only one Lifeline benefit is allowed per economic household. Tell the provider before applying or switching. Do not cancel existing service until a number transfer is confirmed. Sharing an address does not always mean sharing income and expenses; the official household rules apply.

How do I keep the service?

Remain eligible, use the service at least once every 30 days and respond to any recertification request. If USAC cannot verify eligibility automatically, you generally have 60 days to recertify. After 30 days without use, the provider sends a 15-day use notice before service may end.

What if I’m outside the listed states?

Lifeline has national resources. Assurance Wireless's coverage and offers are address-specific and are not available everywhere. Use the official companies-near-me resource if the provider does not serve your address. A solar service area does not determine phone eligibility.
